Sharifah Sofia Albukhary

Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Sharifah Sofia is an economist who holds an MSc in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE). During her graduate study, Sharifah Sofia led her team to the regional round and qualified as one of the regional finalists of the Hult Prize 2016. During the same period, Sharifah Sofia was an external consultant to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, examining methodologies to empower rural women in low income countries. Prior to that, Sharifah Sofia has worked at the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh and interned as an investment banking analyst in Morgan Stanley, Singapore. Sharifah Sofia serves as a trustee of the Albukhary Foundation and is responsible for driving its educational initiatives. With 6 years of work experience in the private sector, focusing on corporate finance and strategy, Sharifah Sofia currently works in private equity. In parallel, she belongs to the inaugural cohort of Southeast Asia Next Gen Leaders at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore (NUS).


Sharifah Sofia chaired the Scholarship Committee at the Albukhary International University since its inception, where she also served as a member of the University’s Board of Governors. She is a Founding Board Member of Philanthropy University and served on the Board of Pos Malaysia, DRB-HICOM and MMC Corporation.


She has a keen interest in international development, social entrepreneurship, and more specifically, exploring the role of education in promoting progressive change.
